In the Youngs double slit experiment, the central maxima is observed to be\[{{I}_{0}}\]. If one of the slits is covered, then the intensity at the central maxima will become:

    A)  \[\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{2}\]

    B)         \[\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{\sqrt{2}}\]

    C)  \[\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{4}\]

    D)         \[{{I}_{0}}\]

    E)  \[I_{0}^{2}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Intensity, \[{{I}_{0}}={{I}_{1}}+{{I}_{2}}+2\sqrt{{{I}_{1}}{{I}_{2}}}\] If        \[{{I}_{2}}={{I}_{2}}=I\] (Let) then          \[{{I}_{0}}=4I\] When one slit is covered then\[{{I}_{2}}=0\] \[\therefore \]  \[I_{0}^{}=I\]                 \[=\frac{{{I}_{0}}}{4}\]
