  • question_answer
For the reaction \[A+B\to C\], it is found that doubling the concentration of A increases the rate by 4 times, and doubling the concentration of B doubles the reaction rate. What is the overall order of the reaction?

    A)  4

    B)  3/2

    C)  3

    D)  1

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[A+B\xrightarrow{{}}C\]On doubling the concentraion of A, rate of reaction increases by 4 times                 \[\therefore \] Rate [A]2 (w.r.t A) However, on doubling the concentration of B rate of reaction increases two times. \[\therefore \] Rate \[\propto \,\,{{[A]}^{2}}\] (w.r.t B) Thus, overall order of reaction \[=2+1=3\]
