  • question_answer
The electric potential at any point \[x,y,z\] in metres is given by \[V=3{{x}^{2}}\]. The electric field at a point (2, 0, 1) is

    A)  \[12\text{ }V{{m}^{-1}}\]

    B)  \[-6\text{ }V{{m}^{-1}}\]

    C)  \[6\text{ }V{{m}^{-1}}\]

    D)  \[-12V{{m}^{-1}}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Here, electric potential                 \[V=3{{x}^{2}}\] Electric field,                 \[E=-\frac{\partial V}{\partial x}=-\frac{\partial }{\partial x}\,(3{{x}^{2}})=-6x\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{E}_{(2,0,1)}}=-12\,\,V{{m}^{-1}}\]
