Enthalpy of formation of \[HF\] and \[HCl\] are \[-161kJ\]and \[-92kJ\]respectively which of the following statements is incorrect?

    A)  \[HCl\] is more stable than HP

    B)  \[HF\] and \[HCl\] are exothermic compounds

    C)  The affinity of fluorine to hydrogen is greater than the affinity of chlorine to hydrogen

    D)  \[HF\] is more stable than \[HCl\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

HF is more stable than \[HCl\]. The reason is that in the formation of HF, more energy is produced. It means, HF has less energy than \[HCl\] and hence is more stable. In other words, we need more energy to break \[H-F\] bond, hence HF is more stable.
