  • question_answer
4g of copper was dissolved in concentrated nitric acid. The copper nitrate solution on strong heating gave 5 g of its oxide. The equivalent weight of copper is:

    A)  \[23\]

    B)  \[32\]

    C)  \[12\]

    D)  \[20\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Weight of copper oxide = 5 g Weight of copper taken = 4 g \[\therefore \]Weight of oxygen in copper oxide \[=5-4=1g\] \[\because \]Weight of copper, reacted with 1 g. \[{{O}_{2}}=4g\] \[\therefore \] Weight of copper, which would react with 8g \[{{O}_{2}}=\frac{4\times 8}{1}=32g.\]. Hence, equivalent weight of copper = 32
