The rate of transpiration will be very less in a situation where:

    A)  ground water is sufficiently available

    B)  wind is blowing with a very high velocity

    C)  environment is very hot and dry

    D)  relative humidity is very high

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Transpiration is loss of water from the aerial parts of plant in from of vapour, it is affected by a number of external and internal factors. Some external factors are. Atmospheric    humidity : If    the atmophsere is humid. It reduces the rate of transpiration. When the air is dry, the rate of trasnpirarion increases. Available soil water : If the available water in the soil is not sufficient the rate of transpiration is decreased. Under internal water deficiency the stomata are partially or completely closed. Wind velocity : A transpiring surface of leaf continuously adds water vapours to the atmospheric air. Once the immediate area becomes saturated, it reduces the rate of transpiration. Wind velocity removes the air of that area, which is replaced by fresh air and result in an increase in the rate of transpiration. Wind velocity is measured by anemometer.
