    An example for autocatalysis is:

    A)  oxidation of \[NO\] to \[N{{O}_{3}}\]

    B)  oxidation of \[S{{O}_{2}}\] to \[S{{O}_{3}}\]

    C)  decomposition of \[KCl{{O}_{3}}\] to \[KCl\] and \[{{O}_{2}}\]

    D)  oxidation of oxalic acid by acidified \[KMn{{O}_{4}}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Autocatalysis is a process in which one of the product behaves as a catalyst. e.g.,  \[2KMn{{O}_{4}}+5{{H}_{2}}{{C}_{2}}{{O}_{4}}+3{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\xrightarrow{{}}\] \[\underset{(acts\,as\,catalyst)}{\mathop{{{K}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}+2MnS{{O}_{4}}+8{{H}_{2}}O+10C{{O}_{2}}}}\,\] The pink colour of \[KMn{{O}_{4}}\] disappears slowly on reaction with oxalic acid, but the rate of disappearance of colour fastens after some time due to the formation of  which acts as auto catalyst for the reaction.
