    Sterilization is the process of killing and eliminating the transmissible agents like virus, fungi, bacteria etc from a surface, equipment, foods, medications or biological culture medium. In tissue culture, the explants are treated with specific anri-microbial chemicals and this procedure is called surface sterilization.   The   vessels,   media   and instruments are also suitably treated with steam, dry heat or alcohol or subjected to Hiteration to make them free from microbes and this is called sterilization. Autoclaving is generally used for sterilization in tissue culture medium. Autoclaving is commonly done at the temperature \[121{}^\circ C\]for 15 minutes or at\[134{}^\circ C\]for 3 minutes.
