Liberation of \[{{O}_{2}}\] when green cells in water are exposed to sunlight in the presence of suitable acceptor is called

    A)  Arnons reaction

    B)  Emersons enhance effect

    C)  Blackmanns reaction

    D)  Hills reaction

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Hills reaction/photochemical/light reaction is initiated when specific light is absorbed by group of chlorophyll molecules primarily concerned with light harvesting. Specific role of light is activation of chlorophyll and photolysis of water. Photolysis of water is associated with pigment system-II and are catalysed by presence of \[M{{n}^{2+}}\]and \[C{{l}^{-}}\] ions. When pigment system-II is active, the water molecules split into OH and \[{{H}^{+}}\]ions. The \[O{{H}^{-}}\]ions unite to form water molecules again and release \[{{O}_{2}}\] and electron. \[4{{H}_{2}}O4{{H}^{+}}+4O{{H}^{-}}\] \[4O{{H}^{-}}\xrightarrow[M{{n}^{2+}},C{{l}^{-}}]{2-Complex}2{{H}_{2}}O+{{O}_{2}}\uparrow +4{{e}^{-}}\]
