In which of the following situations, is there a risk factor for children of incurring erythroblastosis foetalis?

    A)  Mother is \[R{{h}^{+}}\]and father is \[R{{h}^{+}}\]

    B)  Mother is \[R{{h}^{+}}\]and father is \[R{{h}^{-}}\]

    C)  Mother is \[R{{h}^{-}}\] and father is \[R{{h}^{-}}\]

    D)  Mother is \[R{{h}^{-}}\]and father is \[R{{h}^{+}}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Erythroblastosis foetalis is related to the birth of a child with Rh factor. The child of \[R{{h}^{+}}\]father and \[R{{h}^{-}}\] mother inherits the \[R{{h}^{+}}\] trait from the father. A few \[R{{h}^{+}}\]RBCs of the foetus in the womb enter in the blood of the mother where they develops Rh antibodies. These Rh antibodies along with the mothers blood on reaching the foetal circulation cause clumping of foetal RBCs or agglutination reaction. Thus, the foetus following the first child dies either within the womb or just after its birth.
