    : According to law of conservation of linear momentum, \[0={{m}_{D}}{{v}_{D}}+{{m}_{\alpha }}{{v}_{\alpha }}\] where subscripts D and a represent daughter nucleus and a-particle respectively. \[0=(A-4){{v}_{D}}+4v\] \[{{v}_{D}}=-\frac{4v}{(A-4)}\] Negative sign shows the recoil of the daughter nucleus.
