  • question_answer
\[3g\]of urea is dissolved in \[45g\]of\[{{H}_{2}}O\]. The relative lowering in vapour pressure is

    A)  \[0.05\]

    B)   \[0.04\]

    C)  \[0.02\]

    D)  \[0.01\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

: The relative lowering of vapour pressure is given by \[\frac{{{P}^{o}}-{{P}_{s}}}{{{P}^{o}}}=\frac{{{n}_{2}}}{{{n}_{1}}+{{n}_{2}}}\] For a dilute solution, \[{{n}_{2}}\] can be neglected, then \[\frac{{{P}^{o}}-{{P}_{s}}}{{{P}^{o}}}=\frac{{{n}_{2}}}{{{n}_{1}}}=\frac{3/60}{45/18}=0.02mm\] (where, \[{{n}_{2}}\] for urea and \[{{n}_{1}}\] for water)
