  • question_answer
If there was no carbon dioxide in the earths atmosphere, the temperature of the earths surface would be

    A)  less than the present level

    B)  same as the present level

    C)  dependent on the oxygen content in the atmosphere

    D)  more than the present level.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

: \[C{{O}_{2}}\] is a greenhouse gas i.e., it traps a substantial amount of long-wave infrared radiation emitted back by earths surface and do not let it leave the earths atmosphere. It causes increased temperature. Hence, in the absence of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] in our atmosphere, temperature of earths surface would have been less than the present level.
