In an LCR circuit, at resonance

    A)  The impedance is maximum

    B)  The current leads the voltage by \[\pi /2\]

    C)  The current and voltage are in phase

    D)  The current is minimum

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

: In an LCR circuit, the phase difference \[(\phi )\] between current and voltage is \[\tan \phi =\frac{{{X}_{C}}-{{X}_{L}}}{R}\] At resonance, \[{{X}_{C}}-{{X}_{L}}\] \[\therefore \]  \[\tan \phi =0\] or \[\phi ={{\tan }^{-1}}(0)={{0}^{o}}\] Thus the current and voltage are in phase. The current is maximum and the impedance is minimum at resonance in an LCR circuit.
