  • question_answer
In a \[3.2Kbp\]long piece of DNA, 820 adenine bases were found. What would be the number of cytosine bases?

    A)  \[780\]

    B)  \[1560\]

    C)  \[740\]

    D)  \[1480\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    : Total DNA \[=3.2\text{ }Kbp=3200\text{ }bp\] Adenine = 820 According to Chargaffs rule \[\text{ }\!\![\!\!\text{ A }\!\!]\!\!\text{ }=[T],[G]=[C]\] So, Thymine \[=820\] Therefore, total AT content \[=820+820=1640\] GC content \[=3200-1640=1560\] So, cytosine \[=\frac{1560}{2}=780\]
