  • question_answer
The pressure of a gas in a vessel is \[{{P}_{0.}}\] masses of all the molecules are halved and their speeds are doubled, the resulting pressure \[p\] will be

    A)  \[4{{p}_{0}}\]

    B)  \[{{p}_{0}}/2\]

    C)  \[{{p}_{0}}\]

    D)  \[2{{p}_{0}}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

According to the kinetic theory of gases \[{{p}_{0}}=\frac{mN{{{\bar{c}}}^{2}}}{3V}\] So, resultant pressure \[p=\frac{(m/2)N{{(2\bar{c})}^{2}}}{3V}\]                 \[=\frac{2mN{{{\bar{c}}}^{2}}}{3V}\]                 \[=2{{p}_{0}}\]
