At 0 K, intrinsic semiconductors behaves as

    A)  a perfect conductor

    B)  a super conductor

    C)  a semiconductor

    D)  a perfect insulator

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Semiconductors  \[(Ge)\] has four valence electrons. At 0 K all atoms of \[Ge\] forms covalent bonds with the four valence electrons around it, due to this sharing of electrons the atom achieves a stable configuration. Thus, no electrons is free for conduction. Hence conduction of electricity is not possible through semiconductors and it behaves as a perfect insulator.
