Loop of Henie is meant for absorption of

    A)  potassium

    B)  glucose

    C)  water

    D)  \[C{{O}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Glomerular filtrate flows in opposite directions in two limbs of Henle's loop. The cyclic movement of \[N{{a}^{+}}\] and \[\text{C}{{\text{l}}^{\text{-}}}\] (from ascending to descending limb via interstitial fluid, and from descending to ascending limb via the loop of Henie) is called counter-current mechanism, which increase Na+ and \[\text{C}{{\text{l}}^{\text{-}}}\] concentration in the medullary tissue, and a medullary gradient is established. This helps in reabsorption of water from nephric filtrate especially from the collecting tubule (95%). Thus isotonic nephric filtrate is changed to hypertonic urine.
