BHC and DDT belong to which class of pesticides?

    A)  Organophosphates

    B)  Organochlorines

    C)  Carbonates

    D)  Triazines

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

BHC (Benzene hexachloride-\[{{\text{C}}_{\text{6}}}{{\text{H}}_{\text{6}}}\text{C}{{\text{l}}_{\text{6}}}\]) and DDT   (Dichlorodiphenyl   trichloroethane \[{{\text{C}}_{14}}{{\text{H}}_{9}}\text{C}{{\text{l}}_{5}}\]) are chemical pesticides, which are classified in organochlorines. These are basically organic compounds that have been chlorinated. Organochlorines are lipophilic and show much affinity for fatty tissue of animals. DDT and BHC are both toxic, but BHC is more toxic to insect than DDT and used mainly in public health programmes.
