  • question_answer
Which of the following reagents would you prefer to find out whether the hydrocarbon \[{{C}_{3}}{{H}_{4}}\] contains one-triple bond or two-double bonds?

    A)  Fehlings solution

    B)  Ammoniacal \[AgN{{O}_{3}}\] or \[CuCl\] solution

    C)  Baeyers reagent

    D)  \[B{{r}_{2}}\text{/}CC{{l}_{4}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

If the hydrocarbon\[{{C}_{3}}{{H}_{4}}\]contains a triple bond it must be\[C{{H}_{3}}C\equiv CH.\] Since it being a terminal alkyne, it will react with ammoniacal\[AgN{{O}_{3}}\] solution, to give a white ppt. of silver propynide or with ammoniacal \[CuCl\] solution to give a red ppt. of copper propynide.
