Uterine endometrium, epithelial glands and connective tissue are broken in menstrual phase. That is due to

    A)  over secretion of FSH

    B)  lack of estrogen

    C)  lack of progesterone

    D)  over production of progesterone

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Menstruation is caused by the reduction of estrogens and progesterone especially progesterone, at the end of monthly ovarian cycle. The first effect is decreased stimulation of endometrial cells by these two hormones followed rapidly by involution of the endometrium itself to about 65 percent of its previous thickness. During normal menstruction, approximately 40 ml of blood (connective tissue) and additional 35 ml of serous fluid are lost.
