A Carnot engine working between 300 and 600 K has a work output of 800 joule per cycle. The amount of heat energy supplied from the source to engine in each cycle is

    A)  800 J

    B)  1600 J

    C)  3200 J

    D)  6400 J

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                    The efficiency of Carnot engine is given by Given \[{{T}_{1}}=600\,K,\] \[{{T}_{2}}=300\,K\] \[\therefore \]  \[n=1-\frac{300}{600}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[n=1-\frac{1}{2}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[n=\frac{1}{2}=50%\] Also,      \[n=\frac{W}{Q}=\frac{800}{Q}=\frac{1}{2}\] Thus,     \[Q=800\times 2=1600\,J\]
