  • question_answer
A substance with initial concentration of a mol \[d{{m}^{-3}}\]reacts according to zero order kinetics. The time it takes for the completion of the reaction is: (k = rate constant)

    A)  \[k\text{/}a\]

    B)  \[a\text{/}2k\]

    C)  \[a\text{/}k\]

    D)  \[2k\text{/}a\]

    E)  \[ka\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

                    For zero order reaction : \[A\xrightarrow{{}}\]Product \[\begin{align}   & \begin{matrix}    a & \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,0 & \text{at}\,\text{time}=0  \\ \end{matrix} \\  & \begin{matrix}    a-x & x & \text{at}\,\text{time}=t  \\ \end{matrix} \\ \end{align}\] Rate constant (k) is given as \[k=\frac{x}{t}\] After completion of the reaction, the all initial concentration a is changed into x, then x = a \[\therefore \]                  \[k=\frac{a}{t}\]               \[t=\frac{a}{k}\]
