Which of the following metals, Fe, Zn, Pb, Ag and Pt, do not give a metal nitrate on treatment with concentrated\[HN{{O}_{3}}\]?

    A)  Fe and Zn

    B)  Fe and Pt

    C)  Pb, Ag and Pt

    D)  Fe, Ag and Pt

    E)  Fe, Zn and Pt

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Fe and Pt metals do not give a metal nitrate on treatment with concentrated \[HN{{O}_{3}}\] because Pt have no reaction with\[HN{{O}_{3}}\]of any concentration and Fe becomes passive on treatment with highly concentrated\[HN{{O}_{3}}\]. It is due to the deposition of oxide layer on the metal surface.
