Two rain drops falling through air have radii in the ratio 1: 2. They will have terminal velocity in the ratio :

    A)  4 : 1

    B)  1 : 4

    C)  2:1

    D)  1 : 2

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                                             The formula for terminal velocity is given by \[\upsilon =\frac{2}{9}{{r}^{2}}\frac{[g(\rho -\sigma )]}{\eta }\] \[\eta \] = Coefficient of viscocity So,            \[\upsilon \propto {{r}^{2}}\] Hence,   \[\frac{{{\upsilon }_{1}}}{{{\upsilon }_{2}}}={{\left( \frac{{{r}_{1}}}{{{r}_{2}}} \right)}^{2}}={{\left( \frac{1}{2} \right)}^{2}}=\frac{1}{4}\]
