What is the relationship between the parent and daughter nuclei, when a nucleus of an atom undergoes beta emission?

    A)  Isobars

    B)  Isotopes

    C)  Isotones

    D)  Isomers

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

When a \[\beta -\]particle is emitted, the atomic number is increased by one while atomic mass (mass number) remains unchanged, \[ie,\] \[{{\,}_{Z}}{{X}^{A}}\xrightarrow{-\beta }{{\,}_{Z+1}}{{X}^{A}}\] Since, the species having same mass number but different atomic number, are called isobars, thus, the parent and daughter nuclei (which is formed after emission of \[\beta -\]particle) are isobars.
