  • question_answer
The inversion temperature of a copper-iron thermocouple is \[{{540}^{o}}C\]when the cold junction temperature is \[{{0}^{o}}C\]. If the cold junction temperature is increased by\[{{10}^{o}}C,\]  then the inversion temperature and the neutral temperature of the thermocouple respectively are

    A)  \[{{270}^{o}}C\]and \[{{530}^{o}}C\]

    B)  \[{{270}^{o}}C\] and \[{{550}^{o}}C\]

    C)  \[{{280}^{o}}C\]and \[{{530}^{o}}C\]

    D)  \[{{280}^{o}}C\]and \[{{550}^{o}}C\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

No change in neutral temperature but temperature of inversion is \[{{t}_{1}}=2{{t}_{n}}-{{t}_{c}}\] \[540=2{{t}_{n}}-{{0}^{o}}\] \[{{270}^{o}}C={{t}_{n}}\] \[{{t}_{i}}=2\times 270-10\] \[=540-10={{530}^{o}}C\]
