Which is the direction of food through the phloem?

    A)  From below upward

    B)  From tip to bottom

    C)  From leaves to roots

    D)  From roots to stem

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Translocation of food through the phloem takes place from source to sink. There are two region of source of organic food region of photosynthesis (mature foliage) and region of storage. Sink region are meristems developing leaves, flowers and fruits and storage region. The organic food is transported from the leaves to stems and root and can also move up from roots to the rest of plant part during early spring in deciduous plant. So transport by phloem is bidirectional.
