     Water hyacinth (Eichhornia) is an exotic weed which was brought in our country to counteract with water pollution. This weed removes biological and chemical pollutants of water and also absorb heavy metal impurities like Ni, Pb, Hg and Cd. But its growth is rapid and when it was applied in Indian pond and water bodies, due to it rapid growth, they are spreaded over the surface of water bodies, i.e., cover the pond with its growth. Hence, they inhibit sunlight to pass through and causing the death of fishes and also absorb much amount of oxygen form the water. As the prolonged interaction and continuation with environment, they are responsible for drying the water bodies.
