  • question_answer
In\[{{C}_{3}}-\]plants, the first stable compound formed after\[C{{O}_{2}}\]fixation is

    A)  oxaloacetic acid

    B)  malic acid

    C)  phosphoglyceraldehyde

    D)  3-phosphoglycerate

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

The plants fix atmospheric\[C{{O}_{2}}\]by a biosynthetic pathway called\[{{C}_{3}}\]cycle. In this, \[C{{O}_{2}}\]combines with RuBP [ribulose bisphosphate (5C)] to form 2 molecules of 3 carbon compound 3 phosphoglyceric acid (3PGA) or 3 phosphoglycerate. This reaction is catalysed by RuBP carboxylase enzyme.
