The length of a simple pendulum is increased by 44 %. What is the percentage increase in its time period?

    A)  10%

    B)  20%

    C)  40 %

    D)  44 %

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                    The time period of a pendulum of length\[l\]is given by \[T=2\pi \sqrt{\frac{L}{g}}\] where g is acceleration due to gravity. \[\therefore \]  \[\frac{\Delta T}{T}\times 100=\frac{1}{2}\frac{\Delta l}{l}\times 100\] % increase in\[T=\frac{1}{2}\times %\]increase in length                 \[=\frac{1}{2}\times 44=22%\approx 20%\]
