A black body radiates at two temperatures \[{{T}_{1}}\] and \[{{T}_{2}}\] such that\[{{T}_{1}}<{{T}_{2}}\]. The frequency corresponding to maximum intensity is:

    A)  less at\[{{T}_{1}}\]

    B)  more at\[{{T}_{1}}\]

    C)  equally in the two cases

    D)   cannot say

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

From We in's displacement law                 \[{{\lambda }_{m}}T=\]constant                                               ... (i) where \[{{\lambda }_{m}}\]corresponds to maximum wavelength, \[T\] is absolute temperature. Also\[,\]               \[v=n\lambda \]                                                               ? (ii) where \[v\] is velocity, \[n\] the frequency, \[\lambda \] the wavelength. From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get                 \[\frac{v}{n}\cdot T=\]constant Given\[{{T}_{1}}<{{T}_{2}}\], hence frequency corresponding to maximum intensity is less at\[{{T}_{1}}\].
