A) hypotonic
B) hypertonic
C) isotonic
D) mesotonic
Correct Answer: B
Solution :
A cell shrink when placed in hypertonic solution (i.e., the solution having higher osmotic pressure) due to exosmosis. This process is called plasmolysis. The solution of lower osmotic pressure is called hypotonic solution. When a plasmolysed cell is placed in hypotonic solution it regains its normal size due to endosmosis. The solution which have equal osmotic pressure to that of cell is called isotonic. When a cell placed in isotonic solution it remains normal. You need to login to perform this action.
