Photolysis is the phenomenon of breaking up of water into hydrogen and oxygen in the illuminated chloroplasts. It is known as the photocatalytic splitting of water. Plasmolysis is the shrinkage of the protoplast of a cell from its cell wall under the influence of a hypertonic solution. It occurs due to exbsmosis or withdrawl of water from the central vacuole of cell, when kept in a hypertonic solution. Hydrolysis is the breaking of a chemical bond by adding water to it, a proton being added to one product and a hydroxyl to the other. Haemolysis is the bursting of RBCs. It is due to increase in volume of RBCs, of the blood if mixed with distilled water or hypotonic solution.
