Bhopal gas disaster that took place on the night of December 2, 1984 was due to release of phosgene and methyl iso cyanate, which killed over 2500 people in Bhopal in 1984. December 2 is observed as National Pollution Prevention Day in India to mark the anniversary of the Bhopal gas disaster.
