    In Ulothrix meiosis occurs in:

    A)  gamete

    B)  zygdspore

    C)  zoospore

    D)  thallus

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Zygospore is a combined protoplast which is the result of fusion of the two gametes. Zygospore of Ulothrix is quadriflagellate,  diploid short-lived and inconspicuous. Prior to germination, the diploid nucleus of  zygospore undergoes Zygotic meiosis to form four haploid daughter nuclei, meiospores. Which by repeated mitotic divisions develops into haploid Ulothrix filaments. Zoospore are motile spores formed by mitotic division of protoplast of parent vegetative cells of Ulothrix. They can be microzoospores and macro-zoospores. Gametes are similar in origin, structure and liberation as zoospores and differs in being smaller, biflagellated, are incapable to produce new Ulothrix filaments. Thallus in Ulothrix is an unb ranched filament with little differentiation having alike uninucleate cells placed end to end in a row.
