Whittaker (1969) an American taxonomist has proposed a five kingdom classification of living organisms on the basis of (i) prokaryotic and eukaryotic nature (ii) unicellularity and multicellularity (iii) mode of nutrition etc. Copeland (1956) developed four kingdom system.
