Which pigment involved in photoperiodic change in plants?

    A)  Phytochrome

    B)  Cytochrome

    C)  Chlorophyll

    D)  Anthocyanin

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The effect of photoperiods or daily duration of light hours on the growth and development of plants especially   flowering   is   called photoperiodism. The photoperiodic response is mediated by phytochrome, which shows reversible change in red (660 nm) and far-red (730 nm) wavelength. Chlorophyll is green photosynthetic pigment. Cytochrome is protein-haem complex, which functions as electron carrier during oxidative and photophosphorylation. Anthocyanin is a flavonoid pigment. The anthocyanin are responsible for most of the red, pink, purple and blue colour observed in plants.
