Photosynthetic products translocated in the form of

    A)  glucose

    B)  sucrose

    C)  maltose

    D)  starch

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Triose phosphate formed by photosynthesis during the day is transported from chloroplast to the cytosol, where it is converted to sucrose. Sucrose moves from the mesophyll cell to the vicinity of the sieve elements in the smallest veins of the leaf. Respiration starts with the glucose. Therefore, fat, protein and carbohydrates are first converted into glucose for their oxidation and energy releasing. Maltose is commonly found in germinating seed during digestion of starch. Starch is an insoluble polysaccharide of glucose units. It is most important food source and found in cereals, potatoes, legumes and other vegetables.
