A monochromatic light is incident at a certain angle on an equilateral triangular prism and suffers minimum deviation. If the refractive index of the material of the prism is \[\sqrt{3},\]then the angle of incidence is [JEE  Main Online Paper (Held on 11-jan-2019 Evening)]

    A) \[60{}^\circ \]

    B)                           \[45{}^\circ \]

    C) \[90{}^\circ \]

    D)   \[30{}^\circ \]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    For minimum deviation, i =e \[{{r}_{1}}={{r}_{2}}=\frac{A}{2}=\frac{{{60}^{o}}}{2}={{30}^{o}}\] Using snell?s law at the interface, \[1\sin i=\sqrt{3}\sin {{r}_{1}}\] \[\sin i=\sqrt{3}\sin {{30}^{o}}=\sqrt{3}/2\] \[i={{60}^{o}}\].
