The reaction \[2X\to B\]is a zeroth order reaction. If the initial concentration of X is 0.2 M, the half-life is 6 h. When the initial concentration of X is 0.5 M the time required to reach its final concentration of 0.2 M will be [JEE  Main Online Paper (Held on 11-jan-2019 Evening)]

    A) 12.0 h

    B) 9.0 h

    C) 7.2h

    D)   18.0 h

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    For zero order reaction, \[{{t}_{1/2}}=\frac{{{a}_{0}}}{2k}\] \[k=\frac{{{a}_{0}}}{2{{t}_{1/2}}}=\frac{0.2}{2\times 6}=1.67\times {{10}^{-2}}mol\,{{L}^{-1}}{{h}^{-1}}\] \[{{A}_{t}}={{A}_{0}}-kt\] \[0.2=0.5-1.67\times {{10}^{-2}}t\] \[t=\frac{0.3}{1.67\times {{10}^{-2}}}=18h\]
