Using monochromatic light of wavelength \[\lambda ,\] an experimentalist sets up the Young's double slit experiment in three ways as shown. If she observes that \[y=\beta ',\] the wavelength of light used is:   [JEE Main Online Paper ( Held On 09 Apirl  2014  )

    A) 520 nm

    B) 540 nm

    C) 560 nm

    D) 580 nm

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Given \[t=1.8\times {{10}^{-6}}m\] \[\mu =1.6\]n = 2 (from figure) Applying formula \[(\mu -1)t=n\lambda \] \[(1.6-1)\times 1.8\times {{10}^{-6}}=2\lambda \] or,\[\lambda =\frac{1.8\times {{10}^{-6}}\times 0.6}{2}\]\[=540nm\]
