    Which is the strongest acid?

    A)  \[HCl{{O}_{4}}\]

    B)  \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\]

    C)  \[HCl\]

    D)         \[HN{{O}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Perchloric acid \[(HCl{{O}_{4}})\] is the strongest acid. In it chlorine is in its maximum oxidation state (+7). The reason is that as the number of oxygen atom (highly electronegative) increases, the electron density on H-atom decreases. Hence, \[HCl{{O}_{4}}\] can very easily loose a proton. Therefore, it is the strongest acid.
