  • question_answer
If no heat is lost in condensation of x g of steam at \[100{}^\circ C\]. The ratio of y to x is:

    A)  2.5 : 1

    B)         3 : 1

    C)  2:1

    D)         1 : 1

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The latent heat of steam = 540 cal/g and the latent heat of ice = 80 cal/g The specific heat of water is \[1\text{ }cal\text{/}g{}^\circ C\] Heat lost by xg of steam in condensing \[=540x\]                                                             ?(i) Heat gained by ice \[=y\times 80+y\times 100=180y\]          ?(ii) Equation (i) and (ii) we get \[\frac{y}{x}=3,\]                so,       \[y:x=3:1\]
