  • question_answer
The equation of travelling wave is \[y=60\,\cos \,(1800t-6x)\] where y is in micron and t in second and \[x\] in metre. The ratio of maximum particle velocity to velocity of wave propagation is :

    A)  3.6

    B)         \[3.6\times {{10}^{-4}}\]

    C)         \[3.6\times {{10}^{-11}}\]

    D)         \[3.6\times {{10}^{-6}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Velocity of wave is given by \[\upsilon =\frac{\omega }{k}=\frac{1800}{6}=300\,m\text{/}s\] Maximum particle velocity is \[{{u}_{\max }}=A\omega =60\times {{10}^{-6}}\times 1800\,m\text{/}s\] The ratio is \[\frac{{{u}_{\max }}}{\upsilon }=\frac{60\times {{10}^{-6}}\times 1800}{300}=3.6\times {{10}^{-4}}\]
