JIPMER Jipmer Medical Solved Paper-2004

  • question_answer
A particle of mass m moving with velocity v collides with a stationary particle of mass 1m. The speed of the system will be:

    A)  \[3\upsilon \]

    B)         \[\frac{\upsilon }{2}\]

    C)  \[\upsilon \text{/3}\]

    D)         \[2\upsilon \]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    According to conservation of momentum \[{{m}_{1}}{{\upsilon }_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{\upsilon }_{2}}=({{m}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}})\upsilon \] \[m\upsilon +2m\times 0=(m+2m)\upsilon \] So,          \[\upsilon =\frac{\upsilon }{3}\]
