Which of the following pairs of a chemical reaction is certain to result in a spontaneous reaction?

    A)  Exothermic and decreasing disorder

    B)  Endothermic and increasing disorder

    C)  Exothermic and increasing disorder

    D)  Endothermic and decreasing disorder

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

If reaction is exothermic, therefore, \[\Delta H\] is -ve and on increasing disorder, \[\Delta S\] is +ve thus, at these condition, \[\Delta G\] is negative according to following equation. \[\Delta G=\Delta H-T\Delta S\] \[\Delta G=-ve\,.\] Hence, for spontaneous reaction \[\Delta G\] must be - ve.
