Which of the following statement is not true for hydrolysis of\[Xe{{F}_{6}}\]?

    A)  \[XeO{{F}_{4}}\] is formed

    B)     \[Xe{{O}_{2}}{{F}_{2}}\] is formed

    C)     It is a redox reaction

    D)     \[Xe{{O}_{3}}\]is formed

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Hydrolysis of \[Xe{{F}_{6}}\] is not a redox reaction. \[Xe{{F}_{6}}\] reacts violently with water, but slow hydrolysis by atmospheric moisture gives highly explosive solid,\[Xe{{O}_{3}}\]. \[Xe{{F}_{6(s)}}+3{{H}_{2}}{{O}_{(l)}}\to Xe{{O}_{3(s)}}+6H{{F}_{(aq)}}\] Partial hydrolysis of \[Xe{{F}_{6}}\] yields \[XeO{{F}_{4}}\] and\[Xe{{O}_{2}}{{F}_{2}}.\] \[Xe{{F}_{6}}+{{H}_{2}}O\to XeO{{F}_{4}}+2HF\] \[Xe{{F}_{6}}+2{{H}_{2}}O\to Xe{{O}_{2}}{{F}_{2}}+4HF\]
