The primary winding of a transformer has 500 turns whereas its secondary has 5000 turns. The primary is connected to an A.C. supply 20 V, 50 Hz. The secondary will have an output of:

    A)  200 V, 50 Hz

    B)         200 V, 500 Hz

    C)  2 V, 50 Hz

    D)         2 V, 5 Hz

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Given: Turns on primary winding = 500; Turns on secondary winding = 5000; Primary winding voltage \[({{E}_{p}})=20V\]and frequency = 50 Hz. We know that \[\frac{{{N}_{s}}}{{{N}_{p}}}=\frac{{{E}_{s}}}{{{E}_{p}}}\]or\[\frac{5000}{500}=\frac{{{E}_{s}}}{20}\]or \[{{E}_{S}}=\frac{5000\times 20}{500}=200\,V\]and frequency remains the same. Therefore secondary winding will have an output of 200 V, 50 Hz.
