Which one of the following statements is incorrect for the sucrose?

    A)  It is obtained from cane sugar

    B)  It is not reducing sugar

    C)  On hydrolysis, it gives equal quantities of D-glucose and D-fructose

    D)  It gives aspartame when it is heated at\[{{210}^{o}}C\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Sucrose is obtained from cane sugar. On hydrolysis, it gives equimolar mixture of D (+) glucose and D (-) fructose. Sucrose\[\xrightarrow[or\,\,invertase]{{{H}^{+}}}D(+)\]glucose                                                           \[+D(-)\]fructose In sucrose, glucose is present in the pyranose form and fructose in the furanose form. Further since\[{{C}_{1}}-\alpha \]of glucose is connected to\[{{C}_{2}}-\beta \]of fructose, therefore sucrose is a non-reducing sugar.
